Splendor of Peace

Created during 2009 at the China Guanlan Original Printmaking Base; now housed as part of the China Printmaking Museum’s silkscreen collection. Leaves and grass are common symbols for nature in CHUNG’s artworks. Plants grow and wither, unceasingly and enduringly, similar to human life. Each plant has their own function and medicinal effect, just like each person has their own specialties and jobs to perform to contribute to a prosperous society. This piece was created using flora from around the printmaking base. The bottle-shaped composition is indicative that all is safe and sound, and the fluttering greenery represent the anticipated and brilliant culmination of past efforts. Fully harnessing the highly saturated colors characteristic of screen printing, the picture teems with jubilance and vitality.
