The Five City Gates of Early Taipei
In 1875, the imperial envoy Bao-Zhen Shen requested the Qing court to build Taipei. The east Gate, also known as Jing-Fu Gate, the west gate was also known as Bao-Cheng Gate, and the south gate of Li-Zheng Gate was the main gate of Taipei. At present, only the north gate, also known as Cheng-En Gate which still retains the original southern Fujian-style bunker. The small south gate that pass in and out of the Banqiao area was built with the support of the Ben-Yuan Lin family.
