Free Flying

Created during 2009 at the China Guanlan Original Printmaking Base; now housed as part of the China Printmaking Museum’s silkscreen collection. CHUNG adopts the use of foliage to convey the idea of “one grass, one world; one leaf, one universe.” This stems from his realization that, while people are akin to blades of grass in comparison with the universe, we each have our own duties to perform and are irreplaceable in certain aspects. Compiling observations of his surroundings each time he steps outside, the artist then visualizes his harmonious interactions with the environment through his creations. By combining the shapes of the local greenery with the vivacious, life-imbued spiral, CHUNG has crafted an optimistic image of one flying freely above the green earth.
